Yesterday at church I witnessed a special conversation. Grandpa Lloyal came up to Rachel and shook her hand and told her, "Happy Anniversary Rachel". Rachel was sitting down visiting with me and she leaned forward and shook his hand and smiled at him and said, " Happy Anniversary to you too, Grandpa". Grandpa nodded and smiled a gentle smile. So while they were talking I figured out that this would have been their 67th year. They celebrated their 60th together with the entire family in from all over the US for a whole weekend.
But what makes them special to us isn't that they were any different than anyone else. What makes them special is that they had/ have love for each other and they loved family. Grandpa made choices for his family early early on and his family respects and honors him in his old age. But I think what makes it even mean the most to us is his love for ALL of us. It's good to be loved and cared for in prayer and daily living. And it's coming down in the generations.....my husband is a grand son.....
So on the way home Matt and I were talking about Anniversaries. And about my parents. In July they will celebrate their 50th. And Dad is 70 and Mom 67. And for their 60th in ten short years Dad will be 80 and mom 77. And Matt ended the conversation with. "And that's why going out to Idaho in May isn't optional."
He is showing our boys that Grandpa's love for family and Dad's love for Family is something to respect and show them honor to by investing time and love back. And we don't get in to see Grandpa Lloyal nearly often enough either. We want to get in all the love and wisdom we can get!!!
So that wasn't a plug to make everyone who can't make it to Idaho in May feel guilty. We just celebrated our 11th anniversary. And we have three boys and they are watching and it's been something we think about.....about how the decisions the generations before us made affect us now and how the tale will tell in 30 years from our home....about how we can honor them now.....about how life isn't all about me but about saying thank you to the generations who have invested in us. And hopefully that attitude will leak down to our boys........ It has to my man....from his grandpa and Dad.......so hopefully!!!!
Have a fantastic week! ~amy
